GDPR for small business

What is GDPR?

…back in 2018, Europe’s new framework for data protection laws came into effect, replacing the previous 1995 data protection directive. GDPR is enforced by the the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Although it is vital for large corporations to have a stringent GDPR policy, GDPR applies to all companies, including small businesses.

You can be fined up to 2% of your annual turnover if the ICO investigate. Do you remember when Meta was fined €17 million for 12 data breaches, with around 30 million people affected. Although this is a drop in the ocean for Meta, as a small business, you would want to avoid any fines!

3 top tips on how to be GDPR compliant

  1. Audit all your personal data
  2. Update your privacy notice on your website
  3. Ensure your IT systems are up to date
