What is an environmentally friendly website?

There are so many requirements when designing a website, from Search Engine Optimisation, accessibility to GDPR compliance for websites and Privacy Policies. It goes without saying that as we become more eco-friendly in everything we do, websites will have to follow this path.

Why would it be necessary to make the internet greener?

Our data consumption is increasing quickly, all the data we receive and send travels through data centres, which are large warehouses full of servers that need energy and power to cool them, most are powered by fossil fuels. Under the climate change debate, little attention is given to the electricity wasted by inefficient systems.

What is an environmentally friendly website?

An environmentally friendly website is an approach to designing web services that puts people and the planet first, delivering products and services that fall in line with the Sustainable Web Manifest. Eco-friendly websites run on renewable energy, not fossil fuels, they are ethical and value-adding.

What makes a website sustainable?

The main aim of a sustainable website is a focus on reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption. The average website produces 1.76g of CO2 for every page view. Scale that across the whole internet and we have a huge problem.

Why is green technology important?

Green technology is also known as ‘environmental technology’ or ‘clean technology’ The main purpose of green technology is to slow down global warming and reduce the greenhouse effect. New technologies are being developed all of the time which do not damage the natural resources. This will result in less harm to people, species and the health of our plant.

The government invested £116 million in 2019 to drive green technology forward and is predicted green technology and the sustainability market will be worth $36.6 Billion by 2025. The clients I have designed websites for are small businesses, being environmentally friendly is always at the forefront of my design.
